Summer Feet
Summer Feet

Does that get you excited for those cute new sandals you just bought?  Or, does it bring up anxiety over the neglected status of your feet?  I fall into the last category.  My feet and especially my heels have gotten terrible over this winter. I admit it, I neglect my feet.  And from what I’ve read, cell turnover is slower in the heel skin which just adds to the dryness. What to do?

Chocolate Milk Soak:  Sounds crazy right? The lactic acid in milk exfoliates the thick layers of the skin. The lipids replenish moisture. AND…..cocoa powder’s flavonoids help promote new cell growth.  Here’s how:   Stir 2 T of unsweetened cocoa powder into 2 cups of warm, full fat milk. Pour into a basin and soak your feet about 10 minutes. Rinse and if needed, use a pumice stone on the stubborn skin.

Epsom Salt Soak:  I love to soak my feet but now I always add a little Epsom Salt.  It is high in magnesium, a mineral that can be hard for us to get in our system.  For the Essential Oil users, I love to add a few drops depending on the type of soak I want. If it’s at night for a better sleep, I’ll add Lavender. If it’s been a stressful day, I’ll add Stress Away. Or if I just want to pamper myself, I’ll add something like Jasmine, Geranium, or Bergamot.  Just a couple drops will do.

Whitening Nails:  I have two suggestions.  Just rubbing the nails with a lemon rind will work on the discoloration. And for the essential oils users, Lemon Essential Oil also works. The citric acid lifts the yellow off the nails. Here’s how: Rub the lemon rind or oil on the nails for about a minute and rinse. Do it every day until you see the results.

And once you get into the sun, remember that your feet have likely not been exposed for quite a few months.  Add to that, if you have recently had a pedicure your feet are going to be even more sensitive. Be sure to remember to put sunscreen on your feet.   It won’t take much to burn them on their first few ventures out in the sun.

I have lots of information about how essential oils and other natural products can pamper your summer feet even more.  I have some “Notes” that can get you going.  My notes include product information, recipes, and some fun DIY.  Click here to get started.
