Brain Food
Brain Food

As I get older, I really worry about my brain health. (My husband would say he has been worried since he first met me!!)  I know we need to keep our brains active so I try to have something I am learning or reading all the time.  Luckily, I love to do both.

But are there other things we could be doing to support our brain?  Of course. It can be as easy as drinking 2 cups of black or green tea daily.   According to research, this simple practice slashed the risk of Alzheimer’s by 86%.  Wow! The credit goes to the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds found in the tea leaves, which shield the brain from damage.

Another simple practice is to have 1 cup of greens every day; something like spinach, kale, brussel sprouts, or collards. The greens can reverse the age of the brain by 11 years.

Pro Tip:   Drizzle some olive oil on your greens.   Mayo Clinic research suggests the oil’s healthy fat boosts the greens brain protective effects by another 42%.

You can take small steps to improve how you age and how you live. We started small in our house but have slowly made changes that I think will be life long and life sustaining.  A little prevention goes a long way and I can help you with that. Knowledge is the key. Know more. Do better. Check out my notes for healthy living. I can provide these to you free so you too can take those small steps.

How I Got Here

HOMETOWN:  Kent, WA and Gold Canyon, AZ

After 30+ years in healthcare, I felt like a hypocriteI knew better. I was overweight. I was not active, at all. I was having more and more pain and I was having fairly extreme mood swings (Getting older is great, right?). I just wasn’t doing the things I had enjoyed in the past. And getting older really frightened me.

About that time, I was introduced to a new way of thinking. In my heart I knew that we have a lot of influence in our health and how we feel. I just wasn’t acting on it. I began to look at the lifestyle I was living. I became more aware of the natural alternatives including what I ate, products I used, and what I was “treating” myself with. We started switching out the old for the  new and more natural.

It’s been a process but it has been a game changer for us. I feel back in control of my health, physically and mentally. I realize I have the option of turning to a natural choice first, whether it is for cleaning, laundry, personal care, health support, or even skin care.  The feeling of "I've got this" when I look at my stash of natural products.  My husband and I have been able to eliminate almost all of the toxic chemicals in our home.  I still fully believe there is a place for conventional medicine and of course we still need many of the products on the market.  But it just makes sense to me to try something more natural first. It’s hard to quantify feeling better all the way around.  But it’s true….we do.

So are you ready to take ownership of your health? I can promise you it is empowering and can be a game changer for you as well.  I’m convinced that it’s never too late.  Let’s do this. And let’s do it together!
