What is Clary Sage and why do I use it every day?

Clary Sage is an herb. Historically the plant, the flowers, stems, and the essential oil from clary sage has been used for upset stomach, stress, and digestive issues. It has also been a supportive plant and oil for many female issues including menopause, menstrual cramps, and anxiety.   For me this oil has been a “process.” By that I mean I have slowly come to appreciate it.  It has become an essential oil I never forget to put on every day. If I had known how powerful it would be for me, I think the world would have appreciated me finding it much sooner.  ðŸ˜Š

For more information about the oil and its uses, Google it or look it up on PubMed.

Literature says Clary Sage promotes a comforting, soothing feeling, that it is warming when applied to the skin, especially the belly area.  I put it in a roller with some grapeseed oil, and I roll it around my belly button every night. Other areas would be the inside of your ankles, underside of your wrists, on your neck below the ear lobe; any area of thinner skin. Clary Sage is also said to supports normal estrogen levels and can help to relax at night for a good sleep. It has also been used to supports normal circulation, again by promoting relaxation.

Always check with your doctor before using, especially if you are on any type of hormone replacement therapy. I’ve also read that it may not be appropriate for people that have low blood pressure.

Here are some ways you can try clary sage essential oil for yourself:

  • Breath the scent in deeply to induce calmness on the go.
  • You can shake the oil in water and use it as a room spray. Just be sure to give the bottle a good shake between spritzes. You can also spray this mixture lightly on your bedding or couch cushions.
  • Do a patch test to check to see if you’re sensitive to the oil. If not, put a drop on two in the areas I talked about above.
  • Add three to five drops in an ounce of carrier oil for a massage oil.
  • Dab a stronger mixture directly on your skin, like a fine perfume. The pulse points at your wrists and temples or behind your knees and ears work great.
  • Sprinkle onto faded potpourri or use the crushed leaves and buds in tiny linen packets to make drawer sachets.

And of course, I always promote using quality oils.   All oils are not equal.  My brand of choice is Young Living because I know their standards for seeds, cultivation, and distillation; all areas that will impact quality and effectiveness of the oil.
