Rose Spritz

Rose Essential Oil is one of the most cherished of essential oils.  It takes A LOT of roses to make this oil.  Consequently, that makes it one of the most expensive essential oils.  But here’s a little hack you can do especially if you have a rose garden.   Not quite as good as the essential oils but a nice alternative.

Take the petals off a bunch of roses until you have about 1 cup of petals.  Submerge them in enough water to cover them.  Bring it to a simmer then let it sit on low heat until the petals have lost most of their color. Remove from heat and cool.  Once they are cool, strain the petals and pour the water into a glass spray bottle.  This makes a homemade hydrosol-like spray. The fatty acids from the rose petals moisturizes your skin and has some anti-inflammatory properties which can help soothe irritated skin when you use as a spritz.  This would be great for a linen spray, after-shower spritz, or after-sun soothing spray.

You could also add a couple drops of any skin loving oil. I’m thinking Jasmine would be great but you could also do Frankincense, Geranium, or even Lavender.  The essential oils are optional and just a couple drops should do it.   But of course, be sure you are using essential oils from a reliable source (preferably mine).   Just putting “pure” on the label doesn’t guarantee it doesn’t have fillers or synthetics.  And definitely stay away from anything that has “fragrance” in the ingredients.  The essential oils that I use have only one ingredient; the plant!!
